There is no way I could work from my house with 4 kids without my Bose noise cancelling headphones. Yesterday was the first day of online meeting for my 3 elementary school kids, so now from 8:30 to 11:00 I have at least one at some times three kids on video calls.
My kids do NOT know cubicle etiquette, and are not known for their voice volume control.
In Texas we have at LEAST another month of this, as the Governor pushes school openings to May 4 at the earliest. Which is very likely the right decision, but not since my twins were first born and not sleeping through the night will be patience be tested. My marriage literally barely survived that time (95-99% due to me).

Our internet went out for like an hour this morning, it was like the apocalypse had really come

My wife would agree with you. Her Bose headphones are an essential part of her home office, and the first time she ever spent any significant money on audi o gear of any kind. They really are a marvel of acoustic engineering.

DON’T EVEN TYPE THAT! NOT FUNNY.

Noise canceling headphones are incredible, I've got a pair of wired QC25s and a pair of wireless Sony ones (xm3 1000 or something) and I can't go back to using pairs that have no NC.

Without fail, someone always starts screaming when I get on a call. 3 kids at home (5, 3, and 1). To be fair, I’m normally working at the office, not at home, so it’s more that I’ve invaded their territory than they have invaded mine.

My daughter was using my phone for her kindergarten zoom meeting and I was trying to simultaneously hotspot to my laptop so I could work... all on an iphone 7 in a rural area where we have more trees than 4G

I don’t have decent headphones, so I just declare the living room/kitchen/dining room (open floor plan) off-limits while I’m on the phone. Thankfully, both of my kids are old enough to stay in their rooms and work on their schoolwork without constant supervision.

Yeah, I don’t need to monitor the 13 year old much. My biggest issue with her is she will (figuratively ) wander off and start reading non-school stuff. That kid is a voracious reader.

These are QC-15s. I have no idea how old they are; at least ten years. Also, making cloth masks...

Mine are older, corded ones. The new ones have microphones built in and want to bring the outside noise in when you talk on the phone. I don't understand the reasoning there. I want my headphones to close out everything. But yes, modern marvels.

My son requires periodic checks like that . With him, it helps to create checklists and set time goals - math done by 11:00 am, chemistry done by 1:00 pm, etc.

That’s like the transparency function found in modern devices like AirPods. I wasn’t aware that was a feature of Bose headphones.

Yep, handed those down to my wife. The newer ones are nice because they are bluetooth and have slightly better noise canceling, bur the 15's are still pretty good.

Samsies, my wife and I both have them!

I found my QC15s at a thrift store, marked $8, but it happened to be a 50% off day, so only $4. On Amazon I found a Bluetooth adapter that goes on place of the cable, and although it set me back eleven times more than the headphones themselves it was worth every penny.
The first trip I used these on was a trip to visit my folks. I showed them to my dad and made mention that they’re very good at drowning out constant and repeating droning noises. His response? “Will they work on your mother’s voice?” And that was before shelter-in-place...

Kind of defeats th
e purpose of headphones, doesn’t it?

Oof. I'd rather plug mine in. I'm worried about paying a sound quality penalty Bluetooth.

I would be worried about paying a sound quality penalty if I connected via Bluetooth. I'm happy to just plug them in.

I’m no audiophile so I don’t notice any reduced quality, especially just for calls.

Well, in the new AirPods, the idea is that the noise canceling works to filter out white noise that interrupts your music but will let through more sporadic noises that you may need to hear, like a car horn or a person yelling at you. Supposedly it makes it safer to use noise canceling outdoors and in public. I haven’t tried it, that’s just what they say.

When I'm in my classroom, with the 8th graders, I refer to their AirPods as ear wax collectors and lay it on pretty thick when they start sharing them.

8th graders are the most disgusting creatures on the planet. My 8th grader concurs.
